DEN REFRESH PROJECT
Overview...
This couple were stuck on what to do a room in their home that had always been the “toy room.” Now that their kids have flown the coop, they longed for a multipurpose room to accommodate a variety of needs, including providing office space, lounge area, spare bedroom and music room. They also wanted to jazz up the color scheme and add some bling to transform the room into one they were excited to be surrounded by.

Like most projects it isn't pretty, but it's a start!
The room was a hodge podge of different things. It was a storage area, office, and artwork area. Since the kids are grown it was time to put away old toys and create a cohesive look for the new multi-purpose space. Before there were clashing furniture styles and finishes. Getting a theme to unify everything was essential to the final result.
After
Chris and Lynne wanted to redesign a bonus room in their home, which used to house their children’s toys. When their boys grew older, the room was used for gaming and entertaining their boys’ friends. Now that they are empty nesters, the couple wanted to create a multipurpose room.
One that was bright, cheerful, and welcoming. They needed the room to serve as an office for Chris, a music room for Lynn, a comfy place to watch TV, and a guest bedroom. They wanted to keep the existing carpet and incorporate the Midcentury desk that had belonged to Lynn’s grandfather.
The Problem...

We needed to nail down the look and feel of the project.
It's important to be on the same page as my clients. So through my questionnaire and consultation, I can fully understand their design dilemma and vision. My empty-nester clients' wishlist includes making this still a multi-purpose room but more grown up since the kids have left the nest. An office area is still a key component of the space. Having an area for playing music another. And finally, a cohesive design to ensure the space feels unified.
Using the inspiration photos my clients pinned on Pinterest, I created two mood board options for the room. The Playful and Modern board reflects a lighter, more feminine feel, with touches of green to add warmth and an organic element. The added sparkle seen in metallic accents throughout help to achieve an elevated glam look and a serene feel.

The "Sophisticated Glam" board features bolder hues and more gender-neutral elements, with less bling but more eye-catching color pops. The feel of this collection is more energetic and modern, inspiring and fun. They wanted a Midcentury feel, with elevated glam touches in bright, rich colors. They loved both options: Playful & Modern, and Sophisticated Glam.

I create a product concept boards to show my clients how to reproduce the “feel” of each mood board. For the "Playful and Modern" concept, I chose a sofabed, pillows and chairs in rich velvets, and furnishings with gold metallic accents that added the desired sparkle. The hairpin legs of the cocktail table and Sputnik chandelier provide a nod to Midcentury design. Overall this gives my clients two great options to choose from.

For the "Sophisticated Glam" concept, darker pieces were chosen to add a sense of drama, softened by touches of pink and faux fur. The stunning crystal chandelier adds vintage Glam splendor, with playful wall art and modern patterned pillows. I wanted to showcase the unique sideboard which would ground the room. The midcentury and Hollywood glam theme is sprinkled in the velvet couch and unique coffee table.
I also created a floor plan showing optimal furniture placement and sizing to accomplish their goals. I included a pull-out sofa for TV viewing and also for overnight guests. Swivel chairs allowed for viewing of the backyard. I always give my clients detailed placement instructions for their reference. I have a team for local installs and detailed guides for online eDesign clients to follow.

2D+ Designs
Sometimes it's hard to visualize the end result (if you don't have the eye or training like I do). After years of projects, I can envision the space so easily, but for those clients who struggle, I provide 2D+ renders which have been so beneficial. It's a great way for clients to visualize the completed space before they buy any products. A win-win!

They decided to move forward with the "Playful and Modern" plan, swapping a few items for ones on the other board, and a list of products was provided for their approval. Photorealistic renders showing their selected products in their new Hollywood Glam inspired room. This provided the reassurance they wanted and they were so excited to see the room come to life. Since they were in-person / full-service clients, I handled the product sourcing, ordering, tracking, delivery, final installation, and styling.

Speaks for itself. Chris and Lynn were so excited to have a room they just loved to be in! She has a beautiful room to practice her music and an inspiring space for Chris to work. The pull-out sofa provides that much-needed bed for overnight guests, and the gorgeous chandelier added that sparkle Lynn wanted. They are absolutely in love with the "Playful Modern" design that speaks to the Hollywood Glam inspiration.

The Transformation
What makes a room a “Hollywood Glam” room?This style combines high-shine finishes, metallics, and rich fabrics with a nod to Art Deco and Midcentury Modern. It utilizes a high-contrast color palette, often with black and whites as well as jewel tones. This aesthetic blends theatrical with practical, and feels decadent and fabulous!
